Next stop: HP to Mumbai

Rain, rain don't go away, come again every day. Yesterday, Frau Evelyn said it was the hottest day of the year. And today, it's pouring!! Unlike the old man that's snoring, I am jumping for joy, though the rain probably won't last more than an hour.

Well, I'll venture to say that the past two nights have been the best in my life. Now, I know that is one big, bold statement but if you'd been here. . .

First, Harry Potter und die Heiligtumer des Todes.

Ich gehe gern ins Kino. My childhood has officially come to a close. Fitting how that would happen here, in Wien. The epic series began when I was in elementary school. I am part of the HP generation. I grew up while Harry Potter did. It's still debatable whether my letter to Hogwarts just got lost in the mail. I'm convinced I'll stumble upon Diagon Alley someday. If not, I'll take the next best thing. Harry Potter World at Universal Studios- sensational honeymoon destination. All I can say is this, this movie was the best I've ever seen in my life. I won't spoil it for you over in Hamburger a go go land, for whom it comes out tonight. Not that I want to rub it in or anything but, I saw it on Tuesday night. Double feature- the complete seventh book. It was a masterpiece. I loved every second of it. Of course, I was muttering exclamations under my breath the entire time to which the boy next to me would give an occasional response. "Yeeah." I'm sure he thinks I'm a lunatic. But no matter. You shouldn't sit through this movie without making a peep. I even got to take a "Knight" bus home (and walk about twenty minutes). In the end, Ich gehe ins Bett at 4AM. Totally worth it. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Next, ImplusTanz. Wien International Dance Festival.

Ich tanze gern. Last night (Mittwoch) was the opening of the Vienna Dance Festival. The opening show is free for everyone, set up on a stage at the Museums Quartier. For me, it was a dream come true. Here's why.

If you know me at all, you understand why this was the most fantastic thing in the world. I have a strange fetish for Bollywood. Movies, music, dance. I secretly have always wanted to marry an Indian man. Then I could have an Indian wedding, just like in Bride and Prejudice. Last night, we got to see an hour long performance from the Terence Lewis Dance Company from Mumbai. It was love at first sight. Words can not describe how amazing and fabulous this was to me. I think I went a bit giddy and hysterical (see Betsy for clarification). They had a projector behind the dancers and a one point, showed pictures from several Bollywood films. Dhoom 2, Lagaan. After that, I was on cloud nine. So long American gents. As for the Austrian boys, they've fallen off my radar. For the finale, we got to learn a little Bollywood dance. According to Terence, Bollywood dancing is as easy as A B C D. AnyBody Can Dance. You'll have to google a picture of Terence. He's quite the ladies' man.

For Betsy:
The Indian dance company did this amazing number. Aerial Silks. I thought you could work on these in your next class.

Last and certainly not least, here is the song we danced to and consequently it will be the first movie I see when I get home (if you find it boring, you're uncultured. At least go to part 1:18 and see the chorus).

PS: Hope du liebst this post. I wrote it instead of studying for my German quiz. Also, I'm not sure I used the ellipses right. When I write a book, I'll be sure to figure it out before Mutter reads it.

  1. The end of your childhood--that is rather sad to me. However, I am so glad you got to see HP in Wien. You will never forget that and can tell your grandchildren about it. Yes, I think we need to talk about appropriate usage of ellipsis points.
Fred would like you to make sure you plan your wedding around the time the circus is in town. Perhaps we can rent the elephants for a reduced price during the afternoons they are not performing. The Bollywood dance was fabulous; Maddie is going to love it. Were you walking alone at 4 a.m. in the morning? Please don't make a habit of that. It sounds dangerous. The German seems to be coming right along. You are sprinkling more and more phrases in your blogs. I am loving it!

  2. Oh my goodness! I'm so jealous. I love HP. Was it in German? The Bollywood dance looks fabulous! I suppose I'll be hearing that song a great deal when you get home. You know, I learned a bit in my Indian, I'll have to show you. It's quite entertaining...

  5. entschuldigen Sie meine abwesenheit, ich habe ausbildung tragt zum tanz.

I loved HP, it truly was the best movie ever and I know what you mean about it being the end of a chapter in life, the Earl and I felt the same way.
I do not know quite why it is fitting that your childhood ends in Wien, but it is exciting and exotic nonetheless.
Why did HP come out early there? PS: I'm glad you got your bus thing worked out, I know it had you in quite a tizzy.
No thinking involved, I'm sure you were a bit on the hysterical edge (Bollywood would def do that for you, not that it takes much...)
The aerial silks pics are inspiring me! These people look a bit more advanced then me, I'm sure I'll be learning those moves in level two though. You may want to sign up with me, now that you know it is Indianish. I do hope you marry someone from India, I have been dying to attend an Indian wedding!!!
I watched the entire vid and loved it (suppose that classifies me as cultured. Bollywood just has such fun music going on!
