Ich habe eine neue Bluse

Naschmarkt, Naschmarkt! Yes, today I went to the largest flee market I've ever seen. I think I went all googly eyed when I saw it. Whatever you want, they've got, within reason of course. I finally succumbed to the wee shopping devil on my shoulder and made a purchase. A soccer jersey. Ja ja (yes, as the Germans say), I know what you are all thinking. Soccer jersey??? You probably had to read that twice. Let me restate it. Soccer jersey. Ok, so what if when it comes to sports I'm an epic fail? I just haven't quite mastered the hand-eye coordination business. If you recall my last "sporty date," you know what I mean. If you thought everyone could play croquet, think again. And don't even start on the frisbee. I did my best to look aloof to deter any throws in my direction. I try to convince myself I have other talents. But soccer jersey I did buy. Before Vienna, I took up running everyday, or at least wearing exercise clothes 24/7. I figured I could use another exercise t-shirt. Between this one and EP's bright yellow, who wouldn't want to go to the mall or costco with me and my running shoes? I'm secretly hoping this jersey will gain sentimental value and become like my frog shorts. I guess that means I'll have to leave it around for mom to throw in the garbage a few times. After that, it should be perfect.
We met at the Naschmarkt at 9:00. So it was early to rise, late to bed. I can never get that saying right. It wouldn't be an adventure if I didn't miss my bus so that's exactly what happened. Missed by two minutes according to my clock, which meant 20 minutes waiting in anticipation for the next. I was in a rush so I didn't mind what happened next. I've taken the bus every morning for a week; it's always been a pleasant ride. Today, I stumbled into the Knight Bus from Harry Potter (I realize I keep referencing HP but cut me some slack. The last movie is coming out in two weeks and I feel like I'm about to lose part of my soul). If you don't recall, the Knight bus picks up stranded wizards and zooms around at incredibly high speeds, somehow always avoiding mishap. I'd scarcely taken my seat when the bus lurched forth and was unstoppable till the end. I think we skipped every stop but the last three. We tore through the streets; luckily nothing had to dart out of the way. Perhaps the bus driver was envisioning himself as Stan Shunpike; whatever the case, he was definitely a man with a plan panama this morning.

Here is the burrow if you wanted a glimpse. My room is actually above those windows you see. My only window is the sky light covering half the ceiling.

Man with the shnurrbart form the previous post. The picture isn't great quality because I had to take it of my cd.

Last but certainly not least, here's me! at the Mozart memorial. I'm sadly not photogenic so savour this pic. It could be one of the few you get.

  1. Will you be seeing HP in German with English subtitles? That sounds interesting. Why are you always missing the bus and why are you answering boys in French? most people know some English, I think. I love your house, it looks like you are in a rather pastoral setting.

  3. I would like a soccer jersey too but most people buy a soccer jersey for their favorite team. Which team is on your jersey? I am going to study up on some cool German words for my next comment.

  5. Disclaimer: Mom is paying us by the line for our comments so I'm trying to make mine wordy.

So, I loved the image of you running crazily to your apt-I can totally picture that, made me remember when you abandoned me and Erika in the airport and ran to get on the plane-as if you were just going to go to Italy without us :)You are a nervous ninny (or was it nelly?), aren't you?
Your house is cute but the man's mustache is even better!
So tonight Dad hooked the computer up to the TV so we all (as in Boo's fam, Erika's fam, Jordan's fam, M,D,M,O,B) could sit around and read your blog together on the screen after dinner. The words were so tiny that I had to sit close and read the posts to everyone. I read the line-I started jogging everyday this summer and before finishing it was like "um everyday for two days maybe!" and then finished it, ha ha, it is true, you at least looked the athletic part :)
I cannot wait to see you running around in your soccer jersey, you always loved soccer, or at least, the boys :) Do you by chance know the team you now plan to represent?
I cannot wait for HP!!!!!! I hope you see more of Stan Shunpike in Vienna!

  8. Lauren, how do you fit in that attic bedroom? From the looks of this picture, the third floor must be only 5 feet at its peak.

Speaking of soccer jerseys, you should know that the US women's team is playing Japan in the FIFA World Cup final this Sunday. The World Cup is only once every 4 years, so it's a pretty big deal. And it's being hosted in none other but Germany this year. You could practically go there if not for the fact that tickets are probably hundreds of dollars.
