Servus! I'm back, in case you were missing your daily dose of Lauren. I disappeared from the blogging world for a few days. For fear of becoming old news to my fan club, I decided to space out my posts a bit. Word of advice, if you don't have a blog, don't get one. They become terribly addicting. Frightfully fast. Lesen Sie! for highlights of the past few days.
L is for the way Ich liebe das Belvedere. Ich studiere gern die Kunst. Oh Belvedere. This museum was spectacular. I've become quite a lover of fine arts. It's all part of the maturing process. I chose a few of my favorite masterpieces to share.
-Klimt, you amaze me. I was skeptical of this painting in class. I mean, what's the big deal? It's not Monet, not Renoir, certainly not Rubens. Well, I am now a living testament that Klimt was a master mind. Every reproduction I saw on the internet is totally pants. Junk. In person it's like looking at an entirely different painting. My heart aches that I can't show the world the real thing.
"Mit dem Herz arbeiten. Dann ist die Moglichkeit da, das Werk zu beseelen." -Schiele. I couldn't have said it better myself.
"Nothing is so beautiful as Fruhling. When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush; Thrush's eggs look little low heavens and thrush, through the echoing timber does rise and wring." Monet trifft meine Mutter. I don't even know if it's supposed to be spring here but that is what I thought of. Meine Mutter liebt dieses Gedicht.
When you want to make a statement, act Viennese. When they do something, they do it right. As if the paintings weren't enough, the collection resides in the Belvedere Palace. No big deal, just another day in Vienna life.
Yes, that's me in my Lint Body ensemble. Though notice, I'm free of Lint. Of course there's a married boy named Zac on the study abroad. Again, I am a creeper in this shirt.
I'm whisking you away from the beautiful Belvedere. But it's for a good cause. The Natural History Museum. If Night at The Museum had been here, Ben Stiller would've been in for a pretty perilous escapade. In fact, I'm not sure we would've had much of a movie. He would've been eaten alive in the first 10 minutes. If you thought the Chicago Field Museum had a large stuffed animal collection, Wien Naturhistorisches Museum puts that to shame. There is an entire floor dedicated to animals in every variety. If animals aren't your thing, not too worry, there is much more. Fossils, ancient artifacts, parasites, and let's not forget the rocks and minerals collection. Not quite as exciting as the Rocks and Minerals show we used to go to in elementary. Three rooms of maybe 1,000 rocks each. I now know a whole new meaning of the phrase "rocking out." Now for the most famous piece in the museum. Get ready to ou and aw. I'll give you some hints. Sie ist sehr sehr klein. Sie is braun. Sie ist sehr alt. Sie hat keine Augen. Sie hat keine Arme. Well, I really don't know that much Deutsch.
Volia. Venus de Willendorf.
What can I say, Wien is full of treasures. Sie ist eine schon Stadt!
PS: I saw two of these today. Ich mochte eine aber ihr ist sehr sehr teuer. Sieht schic nein? -they weren't quite as cool as this one but still, FERRARI. My heart stopped beating for a split second.
Hopkins knew what he was talking about, did'nt he. Yes, nothing is so beautiful as spring. I am so amazed that you remembered, but the picture is certainly perfect for the poem. I must go to this museum. It looks fabulous. The natural history museum sounds wonderful also. Another "must see" in Vienna. You are getting more proficient in German; soon your blog will be totally in German and we will have to guess what you are saying. However, some of these words seem a bit like English so I can sort of figure out what you are saying. Dad will be excited to see the fancy sports car. He will probably like that better than any museum. The Venus sculpture is quite amazing. Although she is not my idea of the classical Greek beauty, I am sure she had powerful magic for her own culture. Thanks for the great blog post!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are back. Yes, I have been missing my daily dose. Loved the paintings -- the museum sounds fabulous. Wish I could come to Vienna but I will have to settle with living vicariously through your blog for now. Funny that you are wearing your "lint body ensemble." We were just talking about that today and how your lint body blog post was so hilarious. That is a story that will not soon be forgotten!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to admit I'm not really into the Klimt stuff (it sounds like it must be a lot more amazing in real life) though I do like the spring picture. On a side note, I just had a little boy jump out of the bath and run down the hall naked yelling and laughing wildly.
ReplyDeleteYou are becoming quite the poet, I'm sure you'd make even Lord Byron proud.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of Klimt, his paintings look quite intriguing, but, I'm still out on my final verdict, I think I'll have to see him in person. The Belvedere sounds fab, we'll have to go there for sure.
The natural history museum has piqued my interest as well, though unless all of the rocks are carved into nude bodies or other strange formations, one room will suffice.
I do agree that the Viennese go all out, and I love seeing a good Ferrari!
PS: if you have not started blogging-don't!!!!! I'm going to have to quit my day job to keep my comments current on the few I follow as it is.
