Ich spreche Deutsch
Falsch (false). In case you were wondering how my German is coming, it's not. When I signed up for German 101, I didn't fathom what I was getting into. I'm going to request BYU add to this course description, "Add and beware, you're in for the long haul." Something along those lines would have been warning enough for me. Ok, so I know plenty of you are thinking, "you should've prepped yourself all spring" and well, the thing is, I guess I'm lazy. Lazy Lauren. What can I say. I honestly just peter out after fall and winter semesters. I become plum tuckered out and in serious need of rejuvenation. So an addition to my bucket list today is stress management. This time it's for real. But anyway, two hours of German every day is enough to fry anyone's brain cells. The most terrifying thought is, I've only had two classes. My mixed feelings could be largely due to the fact that I haven't studied an ounce. How can I be expected to study when there's so much to see? This could be a once in a lifetime opportunity. In class, my brain wanders from English to French to German, back again, and then somewhere in between. I don't even speak French well but it keeps getting in the mix of things. Our teacher is a native speaker. She speaks in German but has to repeat herself in English in response to the 18 vacuous expressions. Currently, my German repertoire consists of this- clothing, colors, numbers, days of the week, my name is, various commands, and a string of other words. Get ready to be amazed- Mein Name ist Lauren. Mein Famillienname ist Olsen. Ich bin studentin.

Wow, sorry the German is so hard. can you drop out and just do the sightseeing?
ReplyDeleteDon't worry you don't have to learn too much in six weeks. I took German 101 and that is about all I can say now.
ReplyDeleteMiene urh is kaput-that is why I keep missing you on skype. However, O got me a new one in China so there is hope for tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I'm concerned, you only need to know two German phrases to get the most out of Austria
Kannst du beatboxen?
and
Warum ist mir das nicht eingefallen?
don't study too hard...
